Getting Your Instruction Permit in PEI: Your 4-Step Checklist

Step 1: Are You Eligible for an Instruction Permit?

  • Applicants must be at least 16 years old.
  • Parental consent is required for those under 18.
  • A vision screening must be passed at an Access PEI location.

Step 2: What ID Do I Need?

You need two pieces of identification, such as a birth certificate and a passport, to prove your legal name and age.

Step 3: How Much Does the Test Cost?

The fee for the written exam is $20. The permit itself costs an additional $20.

Step 4: Understanding the Test Format

The written exam has 40 multiple-choice questions on road signs and rules. To pass, you must answer at least 32 questions correctly (80%).
